After releasing Arborist 1.0 on Monday, I got a couple of feature requests in to beta this week: selection of the terminal app to open Claude Code chats, and Grove workflow support. I’m excited to get 1.1 into the world before going on vacation!

Having used FileMaker Pro extensively in the 2000’s to mid-2010’s (and I’d consider FileMaker my first real “programming” jobs) it is wild that there’s a bunch of podcast discourse about it now in 2026.
I fondly remember making iTunes-like UI on my databases 20 years ago 😀

I got inspired by the discussion about Squircle Jail and decided to bundle a squircle-free icon with Arborist, because why shouldn’t users be able to have some fun with a git worktree app? 😎
Made good progress tweaking the Arborist UI, which now has a bottom status bar, and I just spent some time on the sidebar. I had been using a SwiftUI List view but that wasn’t working exactly like I wanted so I swapped it out with an AppKit NSOutlineView. I think this is a very nice improvement.
I’ve been working on the teaching improvements in Arborist to guide new users to how to set things up and I’d played with TipKit a little bit on iOS but didn’t realize it was on macOS too. I think this provides a nice touch without being too intrusive.
I had an animation issue in Arborist that I was fighting, and the new Broadcast library from @mergesort@macaw.social came to the rescue and I was able to fix it really quickly thanks to some well placed logging statements.
The response to my Arborist announcement has been fantastic! I’ve got a few more things to polish up before I release it. My hope is the 2nd or 3rd week of July to launch it. I’ll be sharing more about the process of building Arborist as I approach the finish line!

We had to say goodbye to our sweet kitty Molly today. She’d been with us 14 years (adopted on 1/1/2012). Before we had kids, before I found my career, before we bought our house.
Life without her is going to be less snuggly, and we will miss her deeply.

What I’d really like for my birthday is for my new Mac app to get through App Review (it’s been waiting since Tuesday).

My head is still spinning (in the best of ways) after a 2 day SwiftUI workshop from @chris@m.objc.io. I feel like I have a much better understanding of how the framework works!
