One of the fun parts of adding documentation to Arborist using textbundle files is building out Bindle Writer, the textbundle editor I’ve been working on for many years now. I’ve got better media and metadata handling, and yesterday added support for opening folders.

I’ve made some really great progress on the Arborist 1.2 release. I added support for running tasks defined by Makefiles or mise, and I’m really excited to have this in place.

I’ve been on vacation the last couple of weeks, but had a bit of time to work on things here and there. I’m building out a bunch of support pages for Arborist and decided to lean on textbundles for that since I already have my Maverick blog engine. I’m adapting it to be a more general textbundle content provider (am I building a CMS? I may be building a CMS).

It’s been really cool to see this little blog engine I started years ago evolve to be something more. Still a lot of rough edges to smooth out and content to write but I’m confident this is moving in the right direction.

I’m putting the final touches on Arborist 1.1 and hope to push it live today or tomorrow. It’ll have Grove support, iCloud web login for licensing, and the ability to pick where terminal chats from Claude open (iTerm or Ghostty) as the highlights. macarborist.com

After releasing Arborist 1.0 on Monday, I got a couple of feature requests in to beta this week: selection of the terminal app to open Claude Code chats, and Grove workflow support. I’m excited to get 1.1 into the world before going on vacation!

Made good progress tweaking the Arborist UI, which now has a bottom status bar, and I just spent some time on the sidebar. I had been using a SwiftUI List view but that wasn’t working exactly like I wanted so I swapped it out with an AppKit NSOutlineView. I think this is a very nice improvement.

I’ve been working on the teaching improvements in Arborist to guide new users to how to set things up and I’d played with TipKit a little bit on iOS but didn’t realize it was on macOS too. I think this provides a nice touch without being too intrusive.

I had an animation issue in Arborist that I was fighting, and the new Broadcast library from @mergesort@macaw.social came to the rescue and I was able to fix it really quickly thanks to some well placed logging statements.

We had to say goodbye to our sweet kitty Molly today. She’d been with us 14 years (adopted on 1/1/2012). Before we had kids, before I found my career, before we bought our house.
